How to access

We have a number of fantastic print books that cover many different aspects to robotic surgery.

  • Print books can be borrowed by any member of ESNEFT Staff, you just need to be a library member
  • You can reserve books yourself via the library catalogue with your library ID and password.
  • You can also email esneftlibrary@esneft.nhs.uk with the books you wish to borrow and we can do the rest. 
  • We are constantly adding to our collection and welcome suggestions on any relevant book titles.

  • The benefit of eBooks is that they can be borrowed at anytime, wherever you are and via most devices.

How to access

The library provides access to hundreds of high-quality academic journals.

  • Journals are a great way to keep informed of the latest evidence, best practices, research and more.
  • To access full-text articles within a subscribed journal, you just need an NHS OpenAthens account with ESNEFT.  You can find out more about OpenAthens accounts via our Athens webpage
  • You can find out more about accessing journals on our journal resource webpage.
  • You can also make access simpler by downloading LibKey Nomad - a free browser extension that provides seamless access to articles. 
  • You can search to see if we have access for a particular journal via BrowZine (link below).  This is a great way to see both what we have access to and the date range, as well being to look through the volumes of different journals. 
  • If there is an article you need but can't access, simply email the details to esneflibrary@esnet.nhs.uk and we will try our best to source a copy for free for you.

Royal Marsden Manual (RMM)

  • Chapter 16 of The Royal Marsden Manual (10th ed) has information on robotic surgery related to intraoperative care. 
  • Link to the chapter is below. You can read onsite on a trust PC without logging in.  If you are off-site or on a personal device you will need to login with your OpenAthens details.

How can a search help you?

Our highly regarded evidence search service aims to take the heavy lifting out of searching and helps to save clinicians time. 

  • The experts within our team have years of experience in searching medical and other related databases to help you find the right information when you need it. 
  • We have assisted numerous searches on robotic surgery and examples of these can be found in our current awareness bulletin (see above).
  • This service is free for all ESNEFT staff and you can find out more via our evidence search page.

Robotic Surgery in action

What training would help me?

The library offer a wide range of training workshops, aimed to develop your skills. For staff that work in robotic surgery we strongly recommend the following three courses:

  • Critical Appraisal for Quantitative Papers – this 2 hour workshop will introduce you to the skills you need, so as to effectively evaluate papers using quantitative research methods

  • Critical Appraisal for Qualitative Papers – this 2 hour workshop will introduce you to the skills you need, so as to effectively evaluate papers using qualitative research methods

  • Writing for Publication – this 90 minute workshop is great if you need an overview of how to write with the intention of getting work published and the potential avenues to publication
