Preceptorship Training

We offer three sessions for preceptees:

  • An Introduction to Critical Appraisal (Quantitative) - mandatory
  • Health Literacy- mandatory
  • Journal Club- optional

Dates are listed on the next tabs, along with how to book. 

All attendees receive a certificate of attendance, and registers of attendance are shared with the clinical education team so training records are updated.

Please note: You must be booked onto preceptorship sessions for Critical Appraisal and Health Literacy via ESR.  From April 2024 you will not be able to attend our general sessions of these courses.

An Introduction to Critical Appraisal - Preceptorship Session

This workshop will guide you step-by-step through the appraisal of a quantitative research paper.

Some pre-reading will be required and this will be sent to you before the session.

Health Literacy - Preceptorship session

This workshop will help you understand what health literacy is and the impact low health literacy has on patients and visitors. It will also give you practical techniques to use when interacting with patients and visitors.

Preceptorship Journal Club

Journal clubs allow you to openly discuss different journal articles with other preceptees over a virtual platform. 

This counts towards your participatory learning and is a great way to discuss different viewpoints on key issues in healthcare today.

We suggest that if you are unfamiliar with critiquing articles then you attend the critical appraisal study session beforehand.

  • Bookings will close 2 days before each session, so as to allow those booked on to complete the pre-reading required. 
  • Journal club sessions will only run if there is more than one attendee.
